Unihertz Titan 2 Elite després d’un mes: el teclat físic compensa una bateria justa?

I have been using the Unihertz Titan 2 Elite [music] now for over a month since around mid-April and while during that time I have certainly come across a few more pain points, a few more little quirks and things that maybe I would change. I have to admit my affection for this device has really only grown. Now, like I've mentioned in some other content, there have definitely been times where I have been going out on a trail or something and I have thrown a different phone in my pocket to serve as that zoom camera or maybe I've sat down on the couch and wanted a larger canvas for media consumption or something like that. But by and large, the vast vast majority of my time has been spent with the Unihertz Titan 2 Elite and my SIM card has not left this device save one instance. You guys know that I have the Moto Razr Fold coming in for review and my shipping information told me that it was going to be delivered within like a couple of days. So, I moved my SIM into my Moto Razr Plus to get things all set up and ready to just transfer over to that phone and pretty quickly after doing that, I'm just kind of noticing that I really am not enjoying using such a tall phone. Not enjoying typing on glass. I found myself going to YouTube shorts and scrolling through them like absent-mindedly, something I had not done in weeks with the Titan 2 Elite. And then when I saw my shipping, my tracking information updated and the Razr Fold wasn't actually coming for a few more days, it got pushed back for whatever reason, I caved immediately. My SIM came out and it went back into the Titan 2 Elite. Some of you may have noticed this little sign back here that shows how many subscribers I have. I've just hit 81,000 subscribers. I don't know exactly what it is, but there's something about this phone that scratches that gadget itch more than, or I guess I should say better than, like any phone I have used since the original Surface Duo. It is just so incredibly unique and different, and everything about it is just kind of novel and and fun, enjoyable. Obviously, this is super subjective, but I think this is like one of the best-looking phones on the market. I think that this thing looks absolutely fantastic. There's just something about this design that I adore. Obviously, the back is not quite as nice to look at as the front. I've I've heard rumors that they might be getting rid of that little NFC label on the back. Please do that. I don't know what they were thinking with that. That's that's really bad. The back is is just a little kind of just plain Jane. But man, I don't know. You call me crazy, and I probably am, and some of you probably agree, some of you probably disagree, but I adore I adore the way that this phone looks. And what's really interesting to me is that like I mean you guys know, I've been using folding phones for a long time, since the Z Fold 2. I have never carried a phone that has elicited more "Oh my god, what is that?" responses and reactions from people who I have encountered out in the world. And what's so funny about that is it's like not just that they're like confused about what it is. They see it and they go, "What is that?" And I go, "Oh, it's just this this weird little keyboard phone that I'm testing." And they go, "Wow, that reminds me of my old phone." And then they like inevitably, they let out like a sigh, and they go, "I miss that old phone." Like people have a weird nostalgia for these these sorts of phones and like this simpler time that they are associated

with. Now look, do I think that these people, most of them or even many of them who reacted that way, if I took their iPhone and I gave them this that they would be happy with this? No, they would want to go back to their iPhone, to their big screen for media consumption and things like that. But it's just interesting to me how people react when they see this phone. One of my favorite aspects of this phone is just how small it is. As someone who has been carrying these folding phones for so long, having something like this in my pocket instead, I swear it almost feels more like carrying a set of earbuds than it feels like carrying a phone like this. It's only about 170 g. As you can see, I mean it's over an inch. I'd say maybe like an inch and a quarter less in terms of the height. Yes, it is a little bit on the thick side, but I mean, look, here's the Honor Magic V6 with an aramid fiber case on. Is that really that big of a deal? Is that really that thick? I'll just tell you for my use, this thing in your pocket feels radically, radically different than like any other slab phone that you can put in your pocket. And it's it's so easy to just like use. I kind of like I have this weird habit of like holding it like this sometimes if I'm just like holding onto it. And this is something that you can't really do with like a normal I don't know why. I don't know why I do that. Sometimes I do this if I'm like talking to Jim and I or I'm I'm on the phone or something like that. But it's just funny to me that I can't. It's so small. It's so compact. I do not have large hands. And look at the difference in size between these two things. It's it's just Yeah, it's just nice. And then heaven forbid I pick up a foldable like the Pixel 10 Pro Fold that literally feels like a brick by comparison to this thing. It just It

feels like it's a completely different class of device. And it is. And for me, that is a huge part of the appeal. It is a completely different kind, different type of device for a different sort of thing. It's been refreshing. Camera performance continues to be just good enough for me. I made a video talking about how the stock camera app is really bare-bones and the processing is basically non-existent. So, what you can do is you can install a G Cam port. This takes the Google Pixel camera software and puts it onto various different devices. I managed to find a port that works well enough. And with that installed, photos look better than you might expect them to look. The only caveat that I will really give you is that sometimes the white balance things get or I guess I should say like the color temperature, things get a little orange, a little bit too warm. You might want to go into Google Photos and you can actually just use that quick like AI edit button. I think it says AI enhance and it will generally fix that for you very, very quickly. Even if generally speaking editing in Google Photos is a bit of a pain because it the UI just does not work well. The image you can see that you're editing is absolutely tiny. But again, you can fix that color problem. And that doesn't happen very often. Just every now and again. Normally the white balance and the color temperature is really, really good with G Cam. The G Cam app doesn't have access to the 2X telephoto. That can be a little bit of a bummer and video in the G Cam flashes. It does some really weird things. So, you're going to kind of end up using both camera apps for different things. What I've done is I have mapped the G Cam port to a double click of the programmable uh that red button there and the normal camera to a double tap of

the power button so I can quickly use either one. Big shout out to Unihertz for leaving the programmable button. I love that. It is really, really useful. Like I was saying though, back to that camera performance. It's better than you probably think it's going to be. Other than the color sometimes occasionally being a little bit off. The other thing that has annoyed me is just it sometimes is very difficult to focus on an object that is relatively close. I like taking sort of macro style photos of flowers and insects and things like that. Sometimes it just does not want to focus on stuff that is up close and you have to like sit there and kind of do this thing and you're trying to get it to focus. You normally can, but it sometimes it can be very, very annoying. But if you're just out and about and you need to quickly take a shot of something to just preserve a memory or something like that, it's absolutely fine. If you're going out to some beautiful place where you might need zoom or something a bit more capable, you want to shoot a lot of video, you might want to bring something else with you. In general, the software experience is one that just kind of mostly stays out of your way. It's a very basic launcher that doesn't really try to do a whole lot. One annoyance for me is that your quick settings are a down swipe on the right side, your notifications are on the left side and you can't actually swipe back and forth between these. That's such an oversight for me. Another oversight is that your quick settings icons do not theme. They are always blue no matter what your material you color is, it's always going to be blue. Talked about that camera app and, you know, there's just not much in there. It's very, very bare bones. There's not even like a portrait mode in there. So, you're going to want to use, like I said, something

like this LMC Gcam port. And there's another example of something kind of like that. The built-in keyboard software called Kika is just really, really bad. Text correction is bad. It does really weird things sometimes. But the good news is, you can install something called Pastiera, which I've talked about in the past, and it is going to allow you to fix a lot of these issues. You can see this little bar down here at the bottom as you're typing. That is Pastiera doing its thing. Text correction is instantly, instantly much improved. It's so improved that the fact that this keyboard will every once in a while, I might see this once, maybe twice a day, I'll hit a letter and it will put that letter in twice. It's almost like there's a little lag there and it thinks I held the key or something. But the text correction in Pastier is so good that it took me a while to even realize that was happening because I would get a little vibration saying that a word had been corrected and I'd be like, I thought I typed that correctly. I started paying attention. It was just fixing the double letter. That's just it's like a bad thing, but it's a good thing that you notice because of the bad thing. But it also adds a whole bunch of other cool features. Lots and lots of customization, lots of settings you can get into to kind of get this thing exactly where you want it. And let me just tell you, it is transformative when it comes to this device. And there are a couple of features, I think three features, that I really want to call out specifically that make this thing so much better. So, the first one is your enter key behavior. You can customize that. If you want to hit enter to send your text message and shift enter to do a line break, you can do that. You can set it to app default if you want to do

that. But I really like being able to hit enter to send a message. It feels great. How about the quick launcher? So, by default with the built-in system settings, I can kind of show you this here very quickly. If we go into the shortcut keys, you can map all these different keys to be different things and you can do letters. You can actually map each letter to be something that will launch an application and that's really useful, but it's actually faster inside Pastier. If I go home and I hit T, it's going to open up Threads. Let's just go ahead and close everything. We'll just close everything. I'll get Pastier loaded back up again and then I'll go back and hit T and you can see how fast it's going to launch that application. If you launch an app that you don't have mapped, I guess I should say you hit a key you don't have mapped, it's going to give you this little launcher that's going to allow you to map an application. And then from there on, you can do exactly that, and it is super fast and super responsive. If you're already in an app, you can hold down symbol and do the same thing. It's really, really good. But there is, like I said, one more back in customization, and it is nav mode. So, what this does is it allows you to hold down a control key and then use these other keys to move your cursor around as well as doing other things. Now, there is one prerequisite. We do need to have a control key. So, if we go back into the shortcut key section, what I've done is I've mapped my FN key, my function key, to act as control. And there are lots of really good advantages there, right? So, you can do control all, control C to copy, control V to paste, control X to cut, control T to open up a tab, control W to close that tab in your browsers. That alone is really, really good. But when you pair it with this,

it just, like I said, it's transformative. I'm going to type just a bunch of random characters here so that I can show you this. And if I hold down control, I can now hit S and move that cursor around one at a time. We've all been in this situation where we're trying to get our cursor in that exact spot, and we can't quite get it where we want it. Guess what? Now, you can. You can do all sorts of cool things like that. That is such a like gadgety thing to be able to do, but man, oh man, is it so incredibly useful. If you have this phone, if you have any keyboard phone, you're thinking about getting a keyboard phone, install Pastie Era. It is so worth your time. And speaking of time, let's talk about how long this device lasts on a charge. This is a place where, kind of like the camera, it's just barely good enough. My normal routine, I'm going to wake up 6:30, 6:00, 6:30. It's going to be unplugged at that point, and I'm going to use it throughout the day until around 9:00 or so. And by the time 9:00 rolls around, I am normally on fumes. And this thing does have a 4,000 mA power battery and it does have a 4-in screen. It's a Dimensity 7400 processor and I think a lot of you, like myself, probably expected the battery to last longer than it does. I think that there might be some optimization needing to be done with this software. Just going to get you a general idea. You guys watching my channel, a lot of you probably are familiar with the Z Fold 7. I made a lot of content about that. It's one of my favorite foldables and a lot of people complained about that battery life. It's a 4400 mA power battery, but it's like an 8-in inner screen or something like that. That device lasts quite a bit longer for me than the Titan 2 L8 and that really just does not make any sense. The screen is

way bigger. It is a way more powerful processor and I'm doing a lot more like intensive stuff on it, but it lasts longer and the reason is because it's just a better optimized device. One big piece of evidence that this device is not well optimized is how strangely warm it will get. Now, don't get me wrong, I've never had an overheating moment where something's popped up and said, "You got to stop doing what you're doing. We're shutting this app down. We're shutting the phone down." Nothing like that. Not a true overheat, but it definitely, when you're using it for an extended period, you are going to notice that this thing gets strangely warm and what does that mean? It means that your phone is turning the potential energy in your battery into thermal energy that is being released into the air around. That is inefficiency by definition. So, there's something going on here that I think hopefully could be fixed. Now, I am still technically running pre-release software. So, like let's cross every finger we can that that stuff can be fixed. Generally speaking, though, performance has been surprisingly good. If I just start launching applications, I think you can see it and I mean, a lot of these are launching for the first time. They're not running in the background. You can see that it's it's quite smooth. It's maybe smoother than than you would think that it would be. And even when you're in some of these heavier applications like YouTube, you can just kind of freely scroll and it's not really dropping too many frames. I did have some instances at one point where the frame rate definitely would drop. The refresh rate was staying consistent. I checked in developer options. You can pin the refresh rate up there and that was staying consistent, but the frames were dropping. That seems

like mostly kind of sorted itself out. I'm not really sure what happened there, but I've been like pleasantly surprised with the performance itself, thermals, and battery life notwithstanding. Something else that I've started to experience that maybe you could qualify or classify as a as a strange quirk is that I've seen several times over the last couple of weeks where maybe I was just in an application and that application would start to kind of scroll on its own. Like sometimes it's just very slowly with this kind of like jittery up and down thing kind of working its way up or down. Usually it's up now that I'm thinking about it. Not sure what's going on there if it's something to do with the touch digitizer freaking out or if it's the ability to scroll with the keyboard, something. I suspect it's probably that. Something freaking out there. Definitely not a not a deal breaker, but it's something that I've I've seen a few times now and every time I see it I'm like that's very strange to watch the phone sort of just out of your hand on a table just jittering around and trying to scroll. You can usually just kind of scroll back where you want to go. Sometimes I'll just lock it and unlock it and that seems to to fix it, but several things do point towards the a few things needing to be addressed uh in that software. In terms of like a basic question like your your cell service, I do use Mint Mobile which uses T-Mobile towers and I will say that my signal is a little bit weaker than it is on some other phones. And this is this is how I would how I would describe that. If I'm using my Z Fold 7 and I go to a place where my signal is weak, I have a signal but it's slow and it's weak. Put my SIM into the Titan 2 Elite, I might not have any signal at all. It's not a huge

difference and generally speaking, when I'm out and about, I don't notice anything. I'm able to stream music and you know, to my car and things like that, no problems. But again, if I go to these places with a weak signal, places I'm used to having a weak signal, probably not going to have a signal at all with this device. I got to tell you, reviewing a phone like this is just really weird because it's difficult to to properly get the idea across. A lot of people are going to watch this and they're going to be like, remind me like, why does he like this phone so much? Like the camera's okay, the battery life is okay, performance is okay, but I'm sitting here telling you how much I love the thing. I think it's such a fantastic phone and it's because you can't really judge it the same way that you judge a normal phone because it's not for the same things a normal phone is for. This device is different. It's categorically different from an iPhone or an S26 Ultra or a Z Fold 7. It's just a completely different thing. And look, I'm not here to tell you what you like or what you need. But when you look at this phone, you're either going to see it and you're going to go, oh, I know exactly what that's for or you're going to see it and you're going to go, I have no idea why anybody would want that. You can sort yourselves into one of those two categories, I think, pretty easily. And if you're in that first category, you're looking for a phone that might curtail that doom scrolling, that isn't going to suck you in to that black hole, that attention span black hole that many phones will attempt to to suck you into. A phone that you're going to pull out of your pocket, you're going to quickly do the thing you need to do and then you're going to do this amazing thing where you

put your phone back into your pocket. You're looking for something to break those habits. You're looking for something that gives you that tactility that is kind of old-school. Maybe you're one of those people who saw that phone and thought, "Oh my god, what is that?" And you think, "I really miss those days." And it goes deeper than just the phone. You miss the days when your phone wasn't an end-all, be-all, do-all thing. You kind of want to go back to something that the word I've been using is more bespoke. A certain device for a certain thing. Maybe you want to carry an e-reader alongside your phone rather than reading on your phone. If you're one of those people, this is the best one of those things that I have used in a very, very, very long time. It's the best one you can buy right now. If you are not one of those people, thanks for making it this deep into a video about a phone that you have no intention on buying. I do appreciate it. Guys, it's a fun phone. It's completely different. It's novel. I'm going to be switching to the Razer Fold here in just a matter of days, and I genuinely don't know what that's going to be like. Am I going to want to go back to this phone? How am I going to feel using one of these highly homogenized, do-all devices? I have enjoyed using a device that isn't good at everything because that means there are times that I could do a thing, but I go, "No, I can't do it on this." And I end up putting the phone away.
