Unihertz Titan 2 Elite: el mòbil compacte que qüestiona els telèfons gegants

Quickly, what's the first thing you notice about this phone? I would bet it's probably the fact that it has that full QWERTY physical keyboard, but the question I want to kind of explore in this video is whether or not that full QWERTY keyboard is the reason I love this device. And that might seem crazy, but stick with me. Everybody knows how much I love these keyboard phones, and if you've seen my thoughts on devices like the Unihertz Titan 2 Elite, as you can see here, it seems completely obvious why. That massive physical keyboard is the first thing you're going to notice, and it dominates the design. It defines the entire experience of holding and almost dropping the device. Naturally, the immediate assumption is going to be that the tactile keys are the whole reason to buy one, and for a lot of people, that's probably absolutely correct. Now, for me, I would have always told you it was a bit more complicated than just the keyboard. There's more to this device than just that that I enjoy. But, over the last couple of weeks, it has really been hammered home for me how true that is due to something rather unfortunate happening.

When you're dealing with a device like this that puts the typing experience front and center, it's like the biggest thing you're going to see about this device. Getting the typing experience right and nailing that is of paramount importance. If you mess that up, if this thing is bad at typing, it's just instantly a bad device. You can't go install a different keyboard and improve things. This is the keyboard. If it's bad, it's bad. Now, of course, you can install a different typing software to augment the hardware, and if you are using a keyboard phone like the Titan 2, or very soon the Titan 2 Elite once those start to ship to normal consumers, I heavily encourage you to install Pasted Era as your keyboard software because it is just a massive improvement over what is built in. It is with incredible sadness that I must report that even the great software of Past Era has not been able to fix an issue that has cropped up for me, like I said, in the last couple of weeks.

I'm not exactly sure what happened, but there was a software update that rolled out to this phone while I was in my review period for the Moto Razr Fold. I installed it, but didn't really use this device much. And then once I was done with my 1 month with the Razr Fold, I went back to this device and started using it again, and immediately, immediately I started noticing that I was randomly missing some key presses. I'll put some b-roll on screen right now that shows this happening with the stock Kika keyboard software as well as Past Era. Unfortunately, this even is affecting my navigation button. So, if I go to hit home, sometimes it just kind of ignores that key press. I cannot tell you how frustrating that has been on a device like this. Like I said, if you mess the keyboard up, you've messed up the entire device. This problem persisted after a full factory reset. But what was weird is it got a little better after the reset. Like it's not gone, it's not how it was before when I was first using it, but it's better. So, I'm not really sure what's going on there.

When I did the reset, I like didn't install anything and tested it, and like I said, it's a little better. It's very odd. The good news here is that I've reached out to several other content creators who have this phone and were using it. And I asked them, "Are you seeing this?" And so far, no one has been able to replicate the misfortune I'm going through. I emailed Ulefone, I haven't heard anything back. Maybe there will be an update to this as time goes on, but yeah, that sucks. It's also worth pointing out that I think we're still probably running on pre-release software because this thing is just not shipping to normal consumers. So, if this is a bug, then maybe this doesn't hit everybody. Maybe it's a specific circumstance. Hopefully, that's something that can get fixed. Unihertz, I'm I'm waving a flag to you right now and letting you know that this is happening. I sent you an email, but maybe you'll see this instead. I'll also point out that you may have noticed in some of that top-down footage, there's a little scrape on my phone right there. I did something that I so rarely do. I dropped my phone. I was trying to take it out of my pocket and it got caught on my pocket and it fell and I am really lucky that the screen did not break. It has landed on this on the on the frame there and just kind of scuffed it. That happened after this problem started. So, it's not that either. I knew I would get comments about that. You dropped it, you broke something. The timeline doesn't line up there.

I'm sure you're wondering why I'm telling you about this and the reason is because if this was all about the typing experience, what I have experienced over the last 2 weeks would not be what has happened. So, if this problem started and I noticed it, like I I think I said earlier, after I got done with my one-month review period for the Moto Razr fold, I felt like I wanted to go back to my Titan II Elite. I put my SIM back in here. I started having these issues. I got frustrated. I took my SIM out, put it back in the Razr. Couple of days go by and guess what? I thought, "Man, I really just want to try my Titan again." Put it back in. I factory reset. Didn't fully fix the problem, but I have stuck with this phone over my Moto Razr fold, which I think is a fantastic device. And there is one really, really simple and obvious reason.

To put it bluntly, phones are just too big. They're too big and they're too heavy. This thing Look at the size difference between these two phones, okay? And think about the weight difference as well. The Titan is like, well, like 160 g or something like that. Let me look at my article and actually see where I wrote it down here. Yeah, 163 g. This thing is 240 g. And yes, there are other like lighter phones around, but still, you know, that's 220-ish grams. The new Z Fold is going to be about 200 grams. It's still 160. But then beyond that, just look how tall this thing is. You guys know that I'm always having to use, you know, like one-handed modes and things like that to reach the tops of these phones, or I have to use a grip like this, which adds another, you know, 20, maybe 30 grams, so that I can safely shift my grip from the pinky grip to letting go to get to the top of the screen. And even with this grip here, I still can't really reach the top of the screen, right? So, there are There are like menu elements at the top of the screen. If I wanted to get the podcast, even with a grip, I can't reach it. I'm going to have to use a second finger. Phones are just too big. And when I use this phone, it feels so comfortable to me. Okay, let's do the same thing. Here we are in this. I can reach over and hit podcast relatively easily.

You might remember where I made a video talking about how I was mostly just carrying the Titan 2 Elite, but then I was also, when I needed it, when I needed a bigger screen, when I needed a camera, something like that, I was grabbing my Honor Magic V6. The Razer Fold has now slotted into that exact same mode. You can see my my text messaging thing here has the little Vivaldi icon, because what this is is Google Messages for web. I'm able to open this up, and I'm able to see my text messages, and I'm able to send and receive them from this device, but they're really sending and receiving on this device. This has become a companion device, and it's great for that. I pick it up when I need it, and I leave it behind when I don't. And I can just sort of ignore this extra heft. I still love this device. I still love foldables. I just think that they're too tall, and that they are too heavy. That should not be a surprise to any of you.

What might be a surprise, and it was literally a surprise to me, is that I would continue using a keyboard phone with a slightly downgraded typing experience. I've had to just learn to just type a little bit slower and be more deliberate, and that seems to kind of help a little bit with this weird problem I have going on. When it first started, I had this like sinking feeling in my stomach where I was like, "No, I love this phone, and I'm not going to be able to use it anymore, and this sucks. I'm going to have to wait for maybe the Elite Pro if Unihertz sees fit to send that to me, or when my clicks communicator ships, and I was literally I felt like sadness because of that. I didn't think I was going to be able to use it anymore. Yet, here I am continuing to use it despite the thing that it's built around not working as well as it should.

Of course, I want to acknowledge that all of this is subjective. If you are watching this and you're finding yourself disagreeing completely, thinking the weight isn't a problem and the size isn't a problem, that is your perspective, and that is absolutely valid. That is your prerogative. My perspective is different. You might be wondering, "Why not just buy a compact flagship, a smaller phone in general?" Well, there's a couple of reasons for that. One is that there just aren't really all that many around at this point. But the other thing is something I talked about at the beginning of this video. It's about a balance. It's not that I use this phone because it's small or because it has a keyboard. It's both. And what I've discovered over this last couple of weeks is that the balance, the line where these two meet, isn't quite where I thought it was. The size, the form factor, the weight, turns out it's more important to me than I realized it was.

But that doesn't mean I don't still find a lot of joy from this keyboard. One of my favorite things to do with it is just launching applications or mapping the function key to be control so that I can control C to copy, control V to paste, or control W to close a tab, control T to open a tab. I still love stuff like that. I'm not throwing the keyboard out. I'm saying that even though the keyboard has been compromised, I still love the form factor so much that it still makes me want to use the phone. Yes, I did just spend 10 minutes waxing poetic, editorializing about why I like how small this phone is. Hopefully, you found some enjoyment in it.
