Intel respon al MacBook Neo amb portàtils Windows de 699 dòlars i Wildcat Lake

El MacBook Neo ha obligat els PC assequibles a millorar
Quan Apple va presentar el MacBook Neo per 599 dòlars, el portàtil va convertir un preu habitual de Chromebook o PC bàsic en territori Mac. El vídeo els bateja informalment com a «PC-book Neo». No són un únic producte, sinó portàtils d’Acer, Dell, Asus, HP, MSI i Lenovo. Comparteixen el mateix missatge comercial: un PC econòmic ja no ha de semblar barat. Alguns parteixen de 699 dòlars i el Dell XPS 13 anunciat baixa a 599 per a estudiants, exactament el preu inicial del MacBook Neo als Estats Units.
La visita és una presa de contacte, no una prova de rendiment. El canal pot valorar teclat, rigidesa o pantalla, però moltes comparacions de CPU, bateria i gràfics encara provenen del fabricant.
Què és Wildcat Lake
Intel Core Series 3 és una família pensada per a equips de preu contingut. La documentació oficial descriu un disseny de sis nuclis amb fins a dos nuclis de rendiment i quatre de baix consum, una potència base de 15 W i gràfics integrats amb fins a dos Xe-cores. El paquet combina peces fabricades amb Intel 18A, TSMC N6 i N3E.
No s’ha de confondre «Core Series 3» amb «Core Ultra Series 3». Wildcat Lake redueix nuclis, gràfics i altres blocs respecte dels Panther Lake més cars per arribar a un segment inferior. L’objectiu no és guanyar un portàtil professional, sinó oferir prou velocitat per a navegació, ofimàtica, vídeo, estudis i jocs lleugers.
El vídeo preveu que el MacBook Neo conservarà avantatge en tasques curtes d’un sol fil gràcies a l’A18 Pro, mentre que els Intel de sis nuclis poden ser competitius en càrregues sostingudes. Fins que no hi hagi mesures amb configuracions finals i els mateixos límits tèrmics, és una hipòtesi raonable, no un resultat.
La memòria és alhora el problema i l’avantatge del PC
L’encariment de la memòria ha empès tant Apple com diversos fabricants de PC a oferir 8 GB en les configuracions bàsiques. LTT critica aquesta capacitat per a Windows, especialment si el comprador vol conservar l’equip durant anys.
El MacBook Neo té 8 GB de memòria unificada sense opció d’ampliació. Apple també limita la gamma a SSD de 256 o 512 GB. Wildcat Lake admet, segons la configuració del fabricant, fins a 48 GB de LPDDR5X o 64 GB de DDR5. Això no significa que qualsevol portàtil econòmic sigui actualitzable: la LPDDR acostuma a anar soldada.
El Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5i mostrat al vídeo sí que incorpora ranura de memòria. Començar amb 8 GB i ampliar més endavant pot ser una bona resposta a un pressupost ajustat. El compromís és que la memòria DDR en mòdul pot rendir pitjor que una LPDDR5X ràpida en tasques molt dependents dels gràfics integrats.
Sis maneres diferents de competir
L’Acer Swift Air 14 és el conjunt més equilibrat de la primera ronda: xassís metàl·lic rígid, teclat amb bon recorregut, trackpad correcte i una tapa que s’obre amb un dit. LTT situa el model amb 512 GB a partir de 699 dòlars.
El Dell XPS 13 és el favorit de la mostra. Recupera una construcció rígida, bon teclat i trackpad, i afegeix pantalla tàctil. Parteix de 699 dòlars o 599 per a estudiants, però només ofereix dos USB-C i caldrà veure quant costa pujar a 16 GB.
L’Asus ExpertBook destaca per més ports, pantalla tàctil, format convertible i llapis ocult. L’HP OmniBook 5 sembla correcte sense cap característica decisiva. L’MSI Modern 16S aporta la pantalla més gran i teclat numèric. El Lenovo és menys rígid, però guanya valor amb la memòria substituïble.
Aquesta varietat és l’avantatge estructural del PC. Apple ofereix un únic MacBook Neo de 13 polzades, amb el mateix teclat, pantalla i ports. Windows permet triar mida, tacte, convertible, ports o capacitat d’ampliació, encara que obliga a comparar més variables i la qualitat no sigui uniforme.
On continua sent fort el MacBook Neo
El model d’Apple costa des de 599 dòlars, té un xassís d’alumini, pantalla IPS de 13 polzades i 500 nits, A18 Pro amb sis nuclis de CPU i cinc de GPU, i funcionament sense ventilador. Apple anuncia fins a 16 hores de vídeo o 11 de navegació web.
Els límits són clars: 8 GB fixos, un únic monitor extern i només dos USB-C, un dels quals funciona a velocitat USB 2. Les xifres oficials d’autonomia s’han obtingut en condicions pròpies d’Apple i no es poden comparar directament amb les promeses de cada fabricant Windows.
La decisió no és simplement macOS contra Windows. És també simplicitat i eficiència tancada contra varietat, compatibilitat i possibilitat d’ampliació.
Arc G3: l’altra aposta és jugar amb menys watts
Intel també mostra quatre consoles portàtils de MSI, Acer i OneXPlayer amb nous xips Arc G3. La idea és prioritzar freqüència de GPU, utilitzar nuclis eficients i apagar els de rendiment quan el consum baixa de 12 W. Un mode de resistència limita potència i fotogrames per allargar la bateria.
Intel afirma un avantatge del 42% sobre AMD a 35 W i rendiment semblant a un Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme amb aproximadament la meitat de potència en un altre escenari. També parla de fins a onze hores en jocs lleugers. Són resultats de la companyia: el vídeo no executa una bateria independent de jocs ni mesura autonomia.
La dada de preu disponible tampoc és barata. L’MSI Claw 8 EX AI Plus s’estima al voltant de 1.500 dòlars. Per tant, els portàtils Wildcat Lake ataquen el valor; les consoles Arc G3, almenys inicialment, busquen rendiment i eficiència en una gamma cara.

on an 8-gig machine any more than anyone else. But PC bookneos, as I'll be calling them, have a lot of other things going for them that could attract budget laptop shoppers. For one thing, you at least can configure them with more than just 8 gigs of RAM. Apple's A18 Pro, the SOC that sits at the heart of MacBook Neo, was originally designed for a phone rather than a laptop, so it's locked at just 8 gigabytes of memory, and it's not upgradable. By contrast, Core Series 3 supports up to 48 gigabytes of LPDDR5 X memory, or even 64 gigs of regular DDR5. And that right there is advantage number two. While it will cost you some performance, especially in workloads that rely on the GPU or the AI course, some PC bookneos, like this one from Lenovo, are built with memory slots, allowing them to be upgraded after the fact. The MacBook Neo is gonna have the advantage in short single threaded sprints, but it's weak cooling and less impressive multi-core performance means that Intel's six core designs should keep pace fairly well. And while Intel isn't making any bold claims with respect to GPU performance, Core Series 3 will still at least benefit from a decade deep catalog of lightweight games that can be enjoyed on a PC, but simply aren't compatible with Mac. The last highlight has gotta be variety. The MacBook Neo is the MacBook Neo. Screen size too small? That's nice. Don't like the keyboard? Too bad, but on the PC side, we've got a lot of choice, and we just got hands on time with half a dozen systems from the usual suspects, starting with one of our favorites, the Acer Swift Air 14. and with characteristically outstanding chassis rigidity, and XPS were the keyboard and trackpad, and remarkably, a touchscreen, all starting at the same $6.99 or $5.99 for students. Welcome back, XPS, because as long as the 16 gig upgrade isn't priced out of whack, and the only two USB-C's for I-O isn't a deal breaker for you, this looks like the one to recommend for any relatives who want something decent that isn't gonna bring the bank. That is, unless the ASUS expert book has something to say about it. Build quality here feels darn near on par with the XPS, with a nice tactile albeit louder keyboard, and it also has a touchscreen alongside much more practical I-O, and a hidden stylist that you can use when it's flipped around in tablet mode. She is a bit of a fingerprint magnet, and we don't have pricing, so it's hard to compare directly, but if it's in line, this is one to keep your eye on.

HP's On-Ebook 5 didn't jump out at us, but seems like an overall solid machine, and MSI's modern 16S offered up the biggest screen of the bunch with a compact number pad as a bonus. Though again, without pricing for this one, it's hard to say how compelling it is. The last one I wanna highlight is the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5i, not because it managed to wow us with its build quality. The deck flexes enough to be noticeable while typing, but because it's one of the few wildcat lake designs that we were able to confirm uses a sodium slot for memory expansion. Obviously, no one wants to be stuck with eight gigs of RAM forever, but a budget's a budget. So this machine feels like a great way to start with something affordable, and then hopefully expand your memory once things get a little bit less insane. and that's Intel's new ArcG3 handheld gaming chips. How do I put this? These things look freaking awesome. Intel was showing off four different devices in the suite that we visited from MSI, ACER, and OneX Player. And while the details vary, like screen size, stick configuration, and whether they have a kickstand to detachable controllers and a flipping keyboard, what they all have in common is performance that is borderline game changing. ArcGraphics are all grown up, you guys. To tune their Panther-like chips for handheld gaming, Intel did a few things here. They dropped high performance P-course from four to two, XE display engines from three to two, and Thunderbolt 4 from four to two. This helped them save some power and hopefully some costs since they can use chips that didn't make the cut for laptops. The other big change to power is in management of it. but it does a couple of sexy things to dramatically improve frame rate stability. First, it prioritizes GPU frequency, which, okay, that's pretty obvious, but some of the other stuff is a lot less obvious. Like it prioritizes your E-course, your efficiency course, rather than your P performance course in gaming loads. What? Well, it turns out that dark-mon E-course are enough for most things, and by using those rather than the more power-hungry ones, it helps with that aforementioned GPU clock speed prioritization. The other big one is core parking. At 12 watts or less, this new chip will stop using its P-course altogether, which alongside Intel's new endurance gaming mode, which limits power and frame rate, can push your battery life as high as 11 hours in lightweight games. Like, I knew Panther Lake was efficient, but damn, and this efficiency manifests in other areas too, while Intel was proud to boast a 42% lead over AMD at 35 watts,

they know that most folks aren't using 35 watts away from the wall. Most people are gonna want to game it more like 17 watts, and they claim that they can achieve similar performance to the Ryzen AIC to extreme at half of the power, so you can get the same gaming experience just for way longer.
