Halliday G2: ulleres intel·ligents sense càmera per seguir reunions en directe

We're seeing quite the evolution in smart glasses now as the form factor is giving way to more advanced features and proper assistance that comfortably sits on the face at the ready. Halide were already achieving this with their previous glasses, which I ended up wearing for quite some time after our work together. That little digi window was a pretty effective if simple take on how to get that digital information into your eyes without too much fuss. But its singular position like right around here and somewhat fidgety nature was exactly what Halide wanted to address with their latest glasses. And it turns out waveguide displays in the lenses have become the way to ensure that all of the assistance and all of the information would surely make it to the wearer and truly integrate it with the real world beyond these lenses. The change meant that Halide could focus on how to best take advantage of the floating information and the result is a pair of glasses that feels like backup in some very key moments. So let's put these on and talk about them because it's Joshua Vergara. What's going on everybody? These right here are the Halide G2 smart

glasses. Shout-out to Halide for partnering with me on a pre-production unit of their latest smart glasses. We'll dive more into the primary way that Halide are leveraging some of the design changes later as they certainly created a great feature in something called the meeting flow. Meeting flow provides some really cool backup in you guessed it meetings. But it is in way more than just the work environment. After all, there are plenty of other everyday conversations that can use a little bit of extra help from time to time as well. And meeting flow is just one example of how the changes Halide brought to the G2 are meant to provide support, information, and assistance without pulling you out of whatever you might be doing already. All together, it's a pair of glasses that can simply help with everyday [music] life. One thing I really do appreciate about the Halide G2 right off the bat is that they don't change the overall spirit or style when it comes to design. A glossy black finish gives way to a couple of little

flourishes like in the temples and then over here with like the Holiday H, but otherwise hides the various few buttons and speakers that are found in the optimal area just above the ears. The rounded lenses do give them a noticeable look, but not in the way that you'd initially think. I've already gotten noticed for having these glasses on, but not because they scream smart glasses the way perhaps a pair with a built-in camera would. There are no cameras on the Holiday G2, which means these glasses fly under the radar unless someone is really interested in their look. And then after a first glance and maybe a comment, uh the second look usually makes them realize I might be wearing something with uh a bit more smarts installed. That being said, the glossy finish on the arms is basically always in contact with the side of my head and it could feel a little bit more obvious under a little bit of sweat. But I've had no issues with the feel of the glasses otherwise and they do feel quite comfortable to have on all day. Given that these are not a prescription pair though, means that I can take them off at will and employ them whenever the need arises. That is how I imagine a good lot of you would engage with smart

glasses, uh but retail units will support prescription lenses and at that point these glasses would be even more essential. Now, I have used some smart glasses that rely purely on touch sensitive areas and while the G2 does still use one on the right arm for navigation, there are two buttons, one up here on the right side and one down here on the left. The left button turns the glasses on or off and I'm actually turning the glasses on right now. There it is, it says Holiday power on. Uh and then a press on it will put it to sleep while holding it is, like I just said, the actual on and off switch. There is an option to raise one's head to turn on the screen and actually you're allowed to look down in order to turn it off, which is kind of cool. But I actually have had it deactivated in lieu of the more, let's call it intentional interaction. And then this button on the right side functions primarily as a shortcut. A press goes to the function of your choice while a double press opens the control center if you need a quick glance at some of the settings or maybe the media that you might be playing from the connected smartphone. It is actually good to have the right button go straight to a feature like the

teleprompter, the translation app, or straight to one of the main features that Holiday developed for these glasses. I mentioned it earlier, the meeting flow. Again, more on that in a bit. Okay, so what am I actually looking at when these screens are on? Well, Holiday have gone the waveguide route in part to provide way more information at once compared to the previous little digi window. The result at first when you turn on the glasses is a whole dashboard that provides details like the weather, maybe you have a quick note in there, and glances at upcoming events. All of this is customizable in the Holiday app including what note will be displayed on that module. Maybe you could put something like a quote or a reminder there, always ready to be checked. The waveguides make it simpler to just glance up and read while not breaking your attention too heavily from what's actually in front of you. And this also helps with notifications when they come through. Beyond the screens are the pair of speakers in the arms and a four microphone array that adds some sound and audio-based features to the whole mix. And the speakers can be used in order to listen to anything that's coming from the connected smartphone. I

have put on some focus music while I'm working, some podcasts, a little bit of music, plenty of YouTube in the background while using these. And while they are not the richest sounding units, they got the job done well enough. They're actually really good to have in a pinch like for those times when I want to check the audio in my short-form video content before I post it. The audio is also basically just for me rather than blasting out of the phone. And the open nature of these speakers means that I have full awareness of my environment on top of not needing to bust out another pair of earbuds for the job. And also the speakers and the microphones work together for taking calls, which always feels like a bit of a secret agent moment. A display appears regarding the incoming call. I can swipe to answer and then I just talk straight into the glasses. That level of convenience definitely adds to the practicality of the Holiday G2. But, of course, Holiday put their own spin on the useful AI features in this pair of glasses. With the combination of the microphones and much more robust waveguide displays, talking to Holiday AI becomes one of the main ways of getting practical use out of the G2.

Holding the right button here activates the AI, at which time I can actually just ask it some questions. I find myself using this function way more these days, uh and most of the time it's for getting answers to the random questions that I or the people around me are pondering. There's no more having to take out our phones. Other times it's great for like straight conversions of things like, let's say, how to say something in Japanese or converting foreign currency to US dollars or, uh more recently, I been using it a lot to figure out how many grams half a cup of barley turns out to be. Removing some of the friction from getting these answers is the name of the game with smart glasses like the Holiday G2. And you might end up as surprised as I was for a time that I was turning to it way more than I thought I would. And yet, true AI assistance comes when that information arrives proactively. And that's where Holiday's core feature comes into play. Meeting flow is what this right side shortcut button has been set to and for good reason. Not only am I in plenty of briefings and meetings by nature of my job, but it's also useful to have for

just everyday conversations. That's because the microphone array listens while the AI is constantly at the ready to do a number of functions, sometimes all at once. In the more immediate sense, you have captions of what is being said that feel like subtitles of the real world. But, tap the side and there are two quick options: quick research and quick summary. Either of these features can be set to a shortcut by holding the touch-sensitive area, which is really handy because when something comes up in the meeting or the conversation that I want to know more about, I can just touch the side and the Holiday AI will give me a bit more information on a key moment that may have just been said. For example, maybe someone in a conversation or a meeting brings up some sort of key fact or theory that has like a unique name. I can hold the side and in meeting flow, I can do a quick search on that very term, which then comes up as information right in front of me giving me a little more workable context on what was said. The other feature, quick summary, checks the last bit of conversation or discussion and provides a few main points,

basically catching you up if you need it. It's also useful to just get a recap of things sometimes in those moments with friends, let's say, where someone forgets where they were going [music] with the point. And on the main display, meaning flow will just keep track of the overarching points of a conversation, keeping an eye on the threads that tie it all together. Here's an example, talking with my partner, I can hit this button over here and it's going to keep track of all of the stuff that we are discussing. And maybe earlier on in the discussion, we decided to eat Thai food for dinner. If we both move too quickly in the conversation for our brains to keep up, I can already see in my glasses that a decision for Thai food was made earlier, thus lessening the cognitive load and let's say the time wasted sitting there going, "What did we say earlier?" And in the context of a meeting, perhaps there were things that were unresolved at the beginning that everyone just forgot to come back to. Keeping an eye, quite literally, on the thread means that it can be brought back up and nothing has to get swept under the rug. And everything that the Holiday G2 glasses records and the actions it takes are saved in the app. From an overall summary to the full

transcription, there are plenty of tools there to help both in the moment and after all is said and done. It's a powerful feature that easily gets activated with a simple press of the button here on the right, which makes it even more practical as a tool in more than just my work life. It works really well in my daily life. Translation during trips abroad perhaps, the cheat sheet for accessing some notes or a script for me to use the teleprompter on. And of course, like I've just been talking about, the meeting flow for activating what feels like proper backup during plenty of important discussions. All in all, Halliday have made some proper moves to meet the features that they know they want to provide people with the hardware that can make that happen.
